Don’t worry; even if I do end up putting Dark Season on an actual hiatus it’ll just be until I can sort out the timeline.

RE: When will the next chapter be posted?

I’ve been getting more and more of these questions lately, so here’s an official response: I don’t know. I never know when I’ll be able to finish the next chapter to any of my fics, and that uncertainty has been made even worse in the past month when I was forced to pack up my things and move in the course of a day. This stressed me out to the point of being sick, not to mention a spike in depression, and I’m only now getting back to normal.

That’s partially why Dark Season is taking longer than normal—I was working on a timeline and the posterboards are now buried under a ton of other stuff—but mostly it’s because the stress surrounding that whole mess really kicked me in the teeth and I haven’t been in the right state of mind to write more about Tavros being a slave.

I hesitant to officially put it on hiatus as I am still working on it, it’s just that when the mood strikes me to write on it it usually doesn’t stick around for more than a couple paragraphs, and then of course I messed up the timeline in the Sollux<3Karkat oneshot and will have to go back and fix that stuff once I actually get the timeline fixed, which again requires getting to the relevant posterboards.

Look… I don’t want this to come across as offensive but there’s really no other way to say this except to be blunt: please stop asking me when the next chapter will be out. The submission I got today was the first that was phrased in a good way, asking about progress instead of a deadline. Not that I think people are intentionally phrasing things badly, but it’s just that when I get a message reading something along the lines of “It’s been so long! When will the next chapter be done?” then that makes me feel like I’m letting people down, it stresses me out, and I’m even less able to write. I know you guys probably don’t mean it that way but that’s what it ends up doing.

I’ve answered this same thing gently many times on this askblog. At first I tried to give estimates but quickly learned that if I gave a deadline I’d be sure to miss it. So I’ve been saying that I can never be sure when a chapter will be finished for a while now, so please don’t think this blunter is coming out of nowhere. Even in the best of times when I’m writing 1000 words a day on a fic I can’t be sure when it’ll be done, what will happen tomorrow to throw a tree in the road.

I really do appreciate that you guys like my work enough to ask after it, and I don’t want to disappoint, but these asks aren’t doing anything but making me less likely to be able to work on the fic. This will be the last time I answer any of those on the blog as the answer is going to be the same.

Just in case anyone is following this fic through the tag and not the comm itself, I’m going to start tagging all the fic posts as ‘dark season fic’ instead of simply ‘dark season’. There’s been pictures and books and stuff showing up in the tag so hopefully this will make things less confusing for everyone.

Old posts will still be in ‘dark season’.

Why fics have been exceptionally slow lately

There are a few factors going into this, but by and large the majority stems from the fact that finally, FINALLY, I was able to visit Drake. He is my beta, my best friend, my moirail, and in the past year he became my matesprit as well. We love each other dearly and even though we’ve known each other for six years we’ve not been able to meet in person before now. It’s a fair distance between and life kept getting in the way, so finally after having to cancel the last failed attempt when I had to move, we said okay, no, this is going to happen no matter what.

AskDS: Getting things fixed

I’ve made the colorscheme not whatever it decided to be when it ate the old one. I’ve also begun work on the more detailed pages which will house the information for all this worldbuilding nonsense. Does anyone have a request for a particular thing to elaborate on?

SolKat has won the vote. I’ll be getting to the others eventually but since there’s no huge deal as to which order they’re released in thus the poll.

Secondly, I need to revamp and condense a few things, tighten up some loose ends, that sort of thing. That’s a lot of why I have this blog, so I can work through those cultural issues before running into them in fic. I’m going to organize the official stuff into permanent pages which will be easy to access from the top of the blog. Previous asks might contradict some of the things which I later realized needed fixing, but I will post a note to that effect. Nothing major is changing so far; I mostly realized there were some things I didn’t think about as to the practicality of moving the kids up to the fleet.

I also need to fix the theme since it ate my formatting on the colors for no apparent reason. Not that the gray background is bad or anything but i spent a lot of time getting those colors plugged in.

Lastly, I think I’m going to delete the quadrants section from the troll bios and make a separate page for the shipping wall. That way I can just upload a new image every milestone fic instead of having to go in and change five million text entries all the time. I might expand the personality sections and put in a more cohesive bio of sorts, or rework the whole thing into dossiers like what they’d be sending to potential captains and such.

So yes, a bit of an overhaul in progress but nothing too major is going to change.
